Set deep within the French Alps, where the snow-dusted peaks, pine-clad forests and winding mountain roads create an ever-changing backdrop, Saint-Martin-de-Belleville offers visitors a more considered take on Alpine life. Steeped in Savoyard heritage, the village has retained its historic charm with stone-built farmhouses, a traditional town hall and a small village school, all sitting comfortably alongside contemporary chalets and luxury hotels. The result is a place that feels authentic rather than curated, a rarity in today’s ski landscape.
Often overshadowed by its more famous neighbours, Saint Martin distinguishes itself from resorts such as Val Thorens, Méribel and Courchevel through its enduring sense of character. While direct access to Les Trois Vallées opens up 600 kilometres of world-class skiing, life here moves at a gentler, more grounded pace, where sophistication is present but never overstated.
Perched just above the village, M Lodge and Spa embodies this same philosophy. A five-star hideaway that feels closer to a private mountain residence than a hotel, it offers a seamless escape into the stillness and scale of the surrounding Alps, balancing raw natural beauty with refined, understated design.
Hotel
Since opening in December 2022, M Lodge and Spa has earned a reputation as one of Saint-Martin-de-Belleville’s most distinctive addresses. In a village defined by its approach to five-star hospitality, the hotel stands apart through its discreet exclusivity and carefully considered design.
Inside, you’ll find interiors that are deeply connected to their Alpine setting. Warm caramel-toned wood, natural stone, slate and tactile fabrics define the palette, creating a space that feels both stylish and reassuringly grounded. Floor-to-ceiling windows and private balconies draw the eye outward, framing uninterrupted views across the Tarentaise valley to ensure the landscape remains an integral part of the experience.
Rather than relying on conventional chalet styling, M Lodge offers a more elevated interpretation of mountain living. Striking artworks by French artist Amélie du Chalard are displayed throughout the property, many of which are available for purchase, subtly extending the hotel’s design narrative beyond its walls.
Room

With just 25 rooms and suites, M Lodge embraces intimacy in its purest form. Spacious yet cocooning in feel, the interiors reinterpret Alpine style through a modern lens, pairing aged wood and rich natural textures with designer touches including Arpin fabrics, Tom Dixon lighting and elegant Eichholtz furnishings. Leopard print wallpaper by Élitis is playfully contrasted with cow print headboards, while plush throws and soft layered textiles bring warmth to the spaces; indulgent Guerlain toiletries add a final touch of luxury.
For guests seeking even greater privacy, two standalone chalets offer a more residential experience. Each chalet features five bedrooms, expansive living spaces, private spa facilities, hot tubs and swimming pools, along with their own dedicated team of staff to ensure an entirely effortless stay.
Food and drink

Dining at M Lodge and Spa reflects the same attention to detail found throughout the property, with two restaurants offering distinctly different experiences. At Les Voyageurs, all-day dining centres around hearty mountain classics reimagined with international flair, with standout dishes including chicken in masala sauce, and marinated Angus beef served with a vibrant Thai-style chilli, lime and garlic dressing.
For a more exclusive culinary experience, La Table du M presents a bold trio of tasting menus overseen by head chef Giuseppe Ruggiero. Here, diners are invited on gastronomic journeys inspired by Mediterranean, South American and Asian cuisines, with each menu unfolding through intricate flavour pairings and meticulous presentation. Highlights include squid tagliatelle with Peruvian yellow chilli cream, wild turbot tiradito with Jerusalem artichoke ceviche sauce and Chinese-inspired pigeon glazed with five spices – with each dish showcasing the kitchen’s globally inspired approach to flavour.
Beyond dining, the hotel’s bar and lounge encourages guests to linger long into the night. An impressive eight-metre bar, marble-topped tables and a softly lit piano corner create a cosy and inviting atmosphere for afternoon tea, apéritifs or late-night drinks. A predominantly French wine list is complemented by an extensive collection of whiskies and rums, adding yet another layer to M Lodge’s subtly polished take on hospitality.
To do

For guests looking to fully switch off after a day on the mountain, the Spa du M Lodge delivers a peaceful sanctuary, centred around a spectacular 16-metre indoor swimming pool and sauna. In partnership with Valmont, the spa offers a range of restorative face and body treatments, including deeply hydrating lymphatic facials and sculpting massage therapies to revive tired skin after time in the Alpine air.
Elsewhere, the hotel removes much of the usual hassle associated with ski holidays. Equipment fittings and rentals can be arranged in-house, while the hotel’s own Snow Academy provides bespoke tuition and guided tours across Les Trois Vallées, catering to both complete beginners and seasoned skiers seeking off-piste adventures.
Beyond skiing, Saint-Martin-de-Belleville offers a rich variety of experiences that truly reflect its timeless charm. Visitors can unwind at the village wellness centre, La Belle Vie, or enjoy snowshoeing routes and husky sled rides through untouched mountain scenery. Cultural landmarks such as the village’s revered baroque church and museum add further depth, offering a glimpse into the area’s evolution from farming community to luxury Alpine destination.
In a nutshell
Intimate, design-led and quietly luxurious, M Lodge and Spa strikes a rare balance between Savoyard authenticity and contemporary five-star living. Whether returning from the slopes, unwinding in the spa or settling in for an evening of exceptional dining, guests are made to feel entirely at ease from start to finish. It is mountain hospitality at its most understated and elegant.
