After more than six decades, singer Pat Boone is parting with his Beverly Hills home, which is set to hit the market for $22 million, Mansion Global has learned.

Boone bought the Southern California property in 1960. At the time, he was starring in his own variety series, “The Pat Boone Chevy Showroom,” and had four young daughters, so he and his late wife, Shirley, were looking for a big family home where they could put down roots.

“When we found this place, it wasn’t my first choice because it’s at the corner of Beverly Drive and Sunset Boulevard, but it was a big lot and a beautiful home with all the bedrooms and baths that we would need, plus a room over the garage that became their playroom on rainy days,” Boone told Mansion Global.

Boone rose in popularity as a recording artist in the 1950s and ’60s, with some of his biggest hits being covers of songs by Black artists, like “Ain’t That a Shame” by Fats Domino and “Tutti Frutti” by Little Richard.

Boone had at least one song on the Billboard charts for 220 consecutive weeks, and one of his biggest rivals on the charts was Elvis Presley. The two became friends, and Presley even stopped by the Beverly Hills home a couple of times.

“We’d be in the pool on a Sunday afternoon, and unannounced, in walks Elvis and one of his buddies,” Boone said.

Presley wasn’t the only celebrity to pay Boone a visit at his home. Actor Gregory Peck once held a fundraiser in the yard, and Boone often hosted Bible study for other Hollywood stars, including Zsa Zsa Gabor.

The yard, which was the site of many other events and parties over the years, and the total lot size of a little more than an acre, was one of the main draws for Boone and his wife.

“I grew up in Tennessee, so did Shirley, so we wanted a place with a big yard and green grass—I’m not a fan of concrete,” he said. “This place has been an oasis in the middle of Beverly Hills. It’s like being back in Tennessee.”

It’s unusual to find a property of that size in the Flats, and “having over an acre gives you this incredible sense of privacy and serenity that you just don’t find anymore,” said listing agent Lea Porter of the Beverly Hills Estates.

And despite being on the corner of a busy intersection—plus down the street from the Beverly Hills Hotel—high hedges help block out the street noise.

“Until they come into the property, people don’t think that it would be as quiet as it is,” Boone said. “In the house, you don’t hear traffic at all.”

The home itself was built in 1939 and spans 7,032 square feet. There are six bedrooms and seven bathrooms, including a primary suite with two bathrooms and a dressing room that was used by Shirley until her death in 2019.

The Boones added a one-bedroom, one-bathroom guest house and a shed to the property. They also enclosed an open-air patio to create a rec room, complete with a large dining table, a wet bar and a pool table, which will be left with the home. On one side, the rec room connects to the kitchen, and on the other, it flows out to the pool area, making it a seamless entertaining setup.

Boone turned 92 at the beginning of the month and has decided it’s finally time to downsize.

“I would probably do better in a smaller place here,” he said. “I don’t need a place this big, but I love it, and I still walk around and enjoy it all.”
