The global billionaire population and their cumulative assets climbed to unprecedented levels in 2025, propelled largely by an ongoing boom in artificial intelligence and the sustained rally of technology equities. According to a study published by wealth intelligence company Altrata, the worldwide count of billionaires expanded 8.2 percent to reach 3,795 individuals, while their collective net worth rose 12.8 percent to $15.1 trillion, representing approximately ₹1,300 lakh crore. The expansion marked the strongest single-year growth recorded in five years, driven heavily by market advances in semiconductors, corporate software, and modern computing infrastructure.

Surge in Valuations for AI-Focused Corporations

Altrata evaluated 150 publicly traded corporations that contributed substantially to wealth generation during the assessment period. Public companies that committed at least $30 million toward artificial intelligence development over the preceding five years achieved a 23 percent higher pace of market capitalisation growth between 2024 and 2025 compared with firms that bypassed equivalent funding. This outperformance translated into considerable equity gains for major corporate stakeholders holding extensive positions in technology conglomerates.

Analysts at the research firm cautioned that heavy exposure to a single industry introduces notable economic fragility. Maya Imberg, head of thought leadership and analytics at Altrata, stated that personal fortunes tied directly to artificial intelligence could swing sharply in response to market adjustments or evolving investor sentiment. While such sector concentration does not inherently signal an asset bubble, any deceleration in corporate capital expenditure, downward revisions in enterprise valuations, or tech-sector volatility could trigger immediate declines across the portfolios of technology-focused billionaires.

Extreme Wealth Concentrates Among Super Billionaires

The study documented a sharp consolidation of capital within the highest tiers of global wealth. Altrata tracked 29 individuals categorized as super billionaires, each possessing a net worth exceeding $50 billion. This group commanded a combined $4.1 trillion, or roughly ₹353 lakh crore, which represents 27 percent of the entire global billionaire wealth pool. By contrast, only 10 individuals met the $50 billion threshold in 2017, collectively accounting for just 7.2 percent of the worldwide billionaire total.

Geographically, North America retained the largest concentration of ultra-wealthy individuals in 2025. The region recorded an 11.6 percent rise in its billionaire ranks to reach 1,337, bolstered by strong public and private market ecosystems in the United States. Europe followed with 1,081 billionaires after an increase of 7.9 percent, while Asia ranked third with 881 billionaires following a 6.5 percent gain over the course of the year.

Demographic Trends and Self-Made Wealth Patterns

Demographic records compiled in the report show that the global billionaire community maintains an average age of 71, with only 9 percent of members under the age of 50. Female representation remains limited, as women constitute only 13 percent of the world billionaire demographic. Self-made entrepreneurs continue to dominate the classification, with solely 8 percent of listed individuals having acquired their fortunes entirely through direct inheritance.

The data further highlights significant geographical mobility among capital holders, with roughly 20 percent of billionaires residing outside their country of origin. This dynamic proved especially pronounced across prominent global financial capitals, where foreign-born individuals made up nearly 60 percent of the billionaire population in London, 48 percent throughout the broader United Kingdom, 41 percent in San Francisco, and 19 percent in New York.
