Mark Zuckerberg awkwardly reacted when Billie Eilish called for billionaires to “give [their] money away.”
The Facebook co-founder snubbed the singer by not joining in the applause during her acceptance speech at the WSJ. Magazine Innovator Awards, a source told People on Thursday.
“We’re in a time right now where the world is really, really bad and really dark and people need empathy and help more than, kind of, ever, especially in our country,” Eilish said as she accepted the outlet’s Music Innovator Award.
“I’d say, if you have money, it would be great to use it for good things, maybe give it to some people that need it,” she added.
The “Birds of a Feather” hitmaker, 23, then called out several of the wealthy power players in the audience, which, along with Zuckerberg, 41, and his wife, Priscilla Chan, included billionaires Hailey Bieber, George Lucas and Tory Burch and supermodel Karlie Kloss.
“Love you all, but there’s a few people in here that have a lot more money than me. If you’re a billionaire, why are you a billionaire? No hate, but yeah, give your money away, shorties,” she said, prompting the room — sans Zuckerberg — to give some laughs and claps.
A rep for Zuckerberg did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
Per Forbes, the Meta CEO is the third-wealthiest person in the world, with a net worth of approximately $257 billion.
Zuckerberg’s wife, Chan, 40, was honored at the event with the outlet’s 2025 Philanthropy in Science Innovator award for her work through the couple’s Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, which focuses on creating new tools to find and treat diseases.
It’s worth noting that Chan and Zuckerberg have both reportedly pledged to donate 99% of their shares in Meta to their cause during their lifetimes, according to the trained pediatrician’s WSJ Innovator profile.
Eilish proved that she isn’t all talk before she took the stage, as Stephen Colbert announced that the pop star made a large donation to support organizations focused on social initiatives such as climate control and food equity.
“I also have the privilege of breaking a little news tonight. Thank you, Billie, for allowing me to do this. It’s extraordinary,” the talk show host, who introduced the singer, shared.
“Billie Eilish will be donating proceeds from her ‘Hit Me Hard and Soft’ tour to support organizations, projects and voices dedicated to food equity, climate justice, reducing carbon pollution and combating the climate crisis,” Colbert, 61, added.
“That donation, ladies and gentlemen, will be $11.5 million. That’s wonderful. Billie, on behalf of humans everywhere, thank you.”
