According to Forbes real-time asset data recorded at around 9 am on July 28, Vietnam time, the 5 richest billionaires in Japan are holding assets ranging from 4.8 to 64.9 billion USD.

The total assets of this group reached approximately 155.4 billion USD, down 23.2 billion USD, equivalent to nearly 13% compared to the level of 178.6 billion USD recorded on May 22, 2026.

Notably, the position of Japan’s richest person has changed when Mr. Tadashi Yanai and his family surpassed SoftBank founder Masayoshi Son.

Uniqlo owner returns to Japan’s richest position

Topping the current ranking is billionaire Tadashi Yanai and his family with assets of 64.9 billion USD. In the latest update session, his assets increased by 1.2 billion USD, equivalent to 1.93%, putting him at 29th position in the list of the richest people in the world.

Mr. Yanai is the founder and head of Fast Retailing, a fashion retail group owning the Uniqlo brand. The group’s business operations span many major markets in Asia, Europe and North America.

Compared to May 22, Mr. Tadashi Yanai’s assets decreased by about 900 million USD. However, this volatility is significantly lower than the decline of Mr. Masayoshi Son, helping Mr. Yanai regain the title of Japan’s richest person.

The assets of the 5 richest billionaires in Japan totaled 155.4 billion USD, of which Tadashi Yanai and his family rose to the top with 64.9 billion USD. Chart: AI.

Masayoshi Son loses more than 21 billion USD

Ranked second is billionaire Masayoshi Son with assets of 59 billion USD, ranked 33rd in the world.

The assets of the founder of SoftBank have just decreased by 5.3 billion USD in just one day, equivalent to a decrease of 8.22%. This is the strongest fluctuation in the group of 5 richest billionaires in Japan.

Compared to the 80.2 billion USD recorded on May 22, Mr. Son’s assets have decreased by 21.2 billion USD. This development caused him to lose the number one position in Japan and drop 7 places in the global billionaire ranking, from 26th to 33rd.

Masayoshi Son’s assets are heavily influenced by SoftBank Group’s stock price fluctuations and the value of technology investments held by this group.

Keyence founder’s assets decrease to 20.8 billion USD

Third place belongs to billionaire Takemitsu Takizaki, founder of Keyence, a company that provides sensors and equipment for factory automation.

Mr. Takizaki’s assets are currently at 20.8 billion USD, down 138 million USD, equivalent to 0.66% in the day. He is ranked 130th in the list of the richest people in the world.

Compared to May 22 data, his assets have decreased by about 2.9 billion USD, from 23.7 billion USD to 20.8 billion USD.

The remaining two billionaires increase their assets together

Ranked fourth is Mr. Yasumitsu Shigeta, Chairman of Hikari Tsushin, with assets of 5.9 billion USD. In the latest update, his assets increased by 114 million USD, equivalent to 1.96%, helping him rank 688th in the world.

Compared to the estimated level of about 4.9 billion USD on May 22, Mr. Shigeta’s assets have increased by about 1 billion USD.

Closing the top 5 is billionaire Takao Yasuda with assets of 4.8 billion USD, ranked 867th in the world. His assets increased by 237 million USD, equivalent to 5.17% in the day – the highest percentage increase in the group.

Mr. Yasuda is the founder of the Don Quijote discount retail chain, currently under Pan Pacific International Holdings. Compared to the previous update, his assets have increased by about 800 million USD.

Thus, although the assets of 3 out of 5 people had positive developments during the day, Masayoshi Son’s sharp decrease still pulled the total assets of the top 5 richest people in Japan significantly lower than at the end of May.

Note that the asset value of billionaires is estimated by Forbes in real time, mainly based on stock price fluctuations, exchange rates and investment value. Therefore, the data may change significantly in a short time and does not accurately reflect the entire actual assets of each individual.
