Retro Rides Auction platform, RR Auctions has continued its strong run of results in May, with a series of significant collector vehicle sales reinforcing growing confidence in the Australian-owned auction platform among buyers and sellers nationwide.

The May auction delivered strong results across a diverse range of collector and enthusiast vehicles, highlighted by the sale of a 1978 Pontiac Firebird for $189,000.

The Firebird, formerly featured on Rockford Files TV, achieved what is believed to be a world record result of approximately US$132,000, eclipsing the previous benchmark of US$105,000 achieved by a comparable example sold through Barrett-Jackson in 2019.

    Other standout results included:

    1960 Porsche 356B (Australian Delivered) – $185,000
    1966 Ford Mustang GT350R Tribute – $115,000
    2002 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 – $80,000
    Shane Jacobson’s 1963 MGB – $23,500

Josh Wygoda, national sales director at Retro Rides, said the results reflected the increasing maturity of the platform and the growing confidence being shown by collectors and enthusiasts.

“The sophistication of the Australian classic car market is truly inspiring. As enthusiasts increasingly prioritise quality and provenance, Retro Rides and RR Auctions is proud to serve as the platform connecting these exceptional vehicles with their new custodians,” he said.

“We’re seeing more premium vehicles come to market through RR Auctions and, importantly, we’re seeing more serious buyers actively participating. The Firebird result was particularly pleasing because it demonstrates that exceptional vehicles, when presented properly to the right audience, can achieve outstanding outcomes in Australia.”

A key point of difference for RR Auctions continues to be its focus on verified users, curated listings and high-quality vehicle presentation, creating a secure environment for both buyers and sellers.

The strong May performance sets the stage for what is shaping up to be one of the platform’s most exciting catalogues of the year, with the June auction running from 20 to 30 June.

Among the headline vehicles is an exceptionally rare 1998 Subaru Impreza WRX STI 22B, one of only 424 examples produced worldwide and widely regarded as one of the most collectible Japanese performance cars ever built.

Joining it is a rare 1971 Ford XW Fairmont GT South African export model, a seldom-seen variant that presents a unique opportunity for Australian Ford collectors.

The June catalogue also features a low-kilometre Audi R8 V10, one of the last naturally aspirated supercars of its era and a model increasingly attracting attention from collectors.

Adding further variety to the auction are two highly desirable Queensland heritage number plates, highlighting the growing appetite among collectors for significant motoring memorabilia and automotive assets beyond vehicles alone.

“What we’re seeing now is a broader range of enthusiasts using the platform,” Wygoda said.

“Whether it’s a rare Japanese performance car, Australian muscle, a European sports car, a supercar or even heritage number plates, buyers are increasingly seeking specialist marketplaces that understand the enthusiast market and can connect them with quality opportunities.”

The latest catalogue continues to showcase the breadth and quality that RR Auctions has become known for, with vehicles spanning multiple decades, marques and collecting categories.

As momentum continues to build, Retro Rides is also expanding into motorcycles, providing enthusiasts with the same specialist auction experience, professional presentation and secure transaction process that has helped establish the brand within the collector car community.

With growing participation from premium sellers, increasing bidder activity and consistently strong results, RR Auctions continues to strengthen its position as one of Australia’s leading destinations for classic, collector and performance vehicles.

The June RR Auctions catalogue opened on June 20 and closes on June 30, 2026.
