Gold bars
The gold bars available at Costco are definitely the most buzzed-about expensive item the warehouse club sells. Now, the price of these one-ounce gold bars often varies, but as of December 2024, a Costco member shared on Reddit that they found them for $2,660, which was in line with average gold prices that month. It’s worth mentioning that when the gold bars are in stock, the retailer sells out of them instantly.
“Costco received widespread notoriety by selling gold bars—a truly commodity item,” Voda says. “And customers bought thousands of them,” which kept the interest from Costco members high.
Radiant cut 1.54-carat fancy pink diamond platinum halo ring
Brace yourself, because this is the most expensive ring you can find on Costco.com—selling for a whopping $320,000. That’s a lot of money, to say the least. There are four other diamond rings listed on the site for more than $100,000, and dozens more that cost $30,000 and up.
“Costco’s diamonds usually come with GIA certifications, and they are typically priced lower than what you’d find at traditional jewelers for comparable specs,” says Nick Drewe, CEO and retail trends expert at Wethrift. While you won’t find the option to customize a ring, like you would with an independent jeweler, “to savvy buyers, who know precisely what they want and aren’t much concerned about the showroom experience, it can be a great deal.”
Wine cellars
If your humble abode isn’t already outfitted with a built-in wine cellar, don’t worry, Costco has you covered. Their most expensive offering in this category is the Artevino III by EuroCave 200 Bottle Free Standing Wine Cellar with Display Shelf for $3,700. Is this a great deal? Eh, we’re finding better on similar products from other brands at Home Depot and through Wine Enthusiast. But do they have the same commitment to customer service as Costco?
“Costco has strong customer loyalty built through trust, customer service and good prices,” Voda says. “They carry many high-end product lines catering to wealthy customers. Given this, it doesn’t matter what the product category is, as customers know that if there’s an issue, Costco will resolve it and has strong returns policies to remove risks.”
Caviar
It isn’t shocking that Costco sells caviar, but the range of caviar is impressive. For $2,000, Costco members can purchase a Plaza Golden Osetra Caviar Kilo Pack. Surveying caviar brands of a similar caliber and weight across the Internet, this appears to be an excellent deal. And customers report that they enjoy the product—it has 14 five-star reviews on Costco.com.
Golf simulator
If you have the space (and the bank account) for it, Costco is selling the Foresight Sports Golf Simulator, Eagle Package for $20,000. But at press time, there was a manufacturer’s deal where you could secure the simulator for $17,000. Thankfully, shipping and handling is included. Elsewhere I’m spotting this exact same package for $22,000, so even when it isn’t on sale at Costco, they’re still beating out competitors.
Deluxe backyard sheds
Maybe you’re thinking, backyard sheds, how expensive can those be? Some of the options at Costco are pricey, like the Yardline Upton 12′ x 24′ Wood Shed, which starts at $6,500 (that’s without flooring, and you have to assemble it yourself). The product resembles a tiny house and is large enough to fit an SUV. Whether this seems like a good deal largely depends on whether you need a shed of this aesthetic and size. However, it is comforting to know that you can have it installed by professionals, though that kicks up the price to $10,500 (and that’s still without floors!).
Saunas
To be fair, Costco does offer a modest, portable sauna for only $1,500. But for the kind that feels like your home is an upscale spa? Costco sells the Dynamic Toledo 6-person Hybrid Full Spectrum Sauna for $9,000. It’s tricked out with a sound system that has Bluetooth capability and speakers.
“For higher-income members who enjoy convenience and are confident in the Costco brand, finding big-ticket items in the same place they buy groceries proves to be surprisingly appealing,” Drewe says.
Mini grand digital piano
Though it may not be the grand piano played at your favorite luxury hotel, Costco can sell you a Roland CG-1 Mini Grand Digital Piano Bundle to the tune (get it?) of $5,000. But before you break out your sheet music, know that it sells for around $1,000 less at places like Guitar Center and Kraft Music, both of which are also authorized dealers of the brand. So this isn’t exactly the deal Costco would like you to think it is.
Caskets
Not to take a morbid turn, but yes, Costco still sells caskets. Their prices range from $1,300 to $1,600, though there are more options available for Costco Next members that could be pricier. The average cost of a casket is between $2,000 and $5,000, so this seems like an excellent deal, especially because shipping and handling is included.
Wagyu beef
By and large, Costco is a great place to buy beef. That said, they also sell expensive cuts like the 11-pound, Japanese Wagyu New York Strip Loin Roast, A5 Grade, for $1,000. And actually, this is a really good buy, as this particular expensive cut is cheaper at the warehouse club than at other high-end grocers and independent butchers.
Wine collections
While I’m partial to the Kirkland Prosecco, which runs about $8 a bottle, true wine connoisseurs can add rare bottles to their libraries at Costco. Take the Chateau Latour 30-Bottle Vertical Collector’s Set, which features vintages from 1985 through 2014, and costs $38,000. That’s $1,267 per bottle. There’s also the Domaine De La Romanee-Conti 2018 Assorted 5-Pack for $30,000, which breaks down to essentially $6,000 a bottle. It’s important to note that both collections mentioned are only available in California and you have to email a Costco rep just to inquire about them. I do see Domaine De La Romanee-Conti bottles from 2018 available at other wine vendors for less. But saying you bought these through Costco? Priceless.
