Forbes 2026 Billionaires List shows around 400 new individuals joined the billionaire ranks over the past year, underlining continued expansion at the very top of global wealth: their combined wealth has reached a record £15.8 trillion.

Analysis of the UK scene and our 54 billionaires shows they have a combined net worth of approximately £184.6 billion, placing this among Europe’s key ultra-wealth hubs, behind only Germany (173 billionaires) in terms of total billionaire population.

On a per-capita basis, the UK records 0.8 billionaires per million people, above the global average of 0.4, but significantly below high-density wealth centres such as Hong Kong and Singapore.

Globally, billionaire wealth remains heavily concentrated, led by the US where there are 934 of them (with $8.22 trillion combined wealth) and China (519 billionaires, $2.1 trillion). After Germany and the UK come Russia, Italy, and France in the wider Europe region.

The UK’s wealth profile is described as “institutional in character,” by data scientists at PlayersTime who carried out the analysis. Much of the ultra-wealthy’s accumulation is anchored in finance, property, and long-standing business empires, with London continuing to act as a global clearing house for capital – rather than a primary engine of new fortunes.

A significant proportion of UK-based billionaires generated wealth internationally before basing themselves or their assets in the country, the report says.

Michael Platt, co-founder of BlueCrest Capital Management, is said to be the UK’s richest individual with an estimated fortune of £13.9 billion. In the top five, he’s followed by James Ratcliffe (£12.8 billion), James Dyson (£11.3 billion) and brothers Simon (£9.9 billion) and David Reuben (£9.9 billion). Only one woman makes it into the top 10 billionaires in the UK – Denise Coates, founder of Bet365, the scope of which places the Stoke-born entrepreneur with a fortune of £5.4 billion.

“With wealth increasingly concentrated among a relatively small global elite, for the luxury travel sector this growth and international mobility of ultra-high-net-worth individuals continues to open up demand for highly personalised, complex itineraries and milestone-driven travel,” said April Hutchinson, head of luxury at TTG Media.

“Seeking the ultimate in privacy and service, exclusive access and a sense of rarity, their needs are increasingly well served by growing numbers of Family Offices, concierge companies, private travel designers and innovative tour operators who all appreciate that trust is everything, and most advisors understand that often their clients’ ultimate luxury is time. It’s a great time to be analysing these trends and much more at a show like Black Book – we hope it will offer many ideas of travel to suit attendees’ mutual clients.”
