Forget refreshing flight statuses, fighting for overhead bin space, or pretending economy plus counts as a splurge. For billionaires and the ultra-rich, vacationing is less about getting away and more about moving through a parallel travel universe, one built around private jet terminals, mega-yacht moorings, palace hotels, members-only clubs, and destinations where privacy is part of the price tag.

So where do billionaires vacation when they want to escape the spotlight? A May 2026 ultra-luxury travel trends report from Maui Elite Property offers a revealing answer. The real estate and consultancy firm analyzed the world’s most exclusive vacation destinations, ranking them by premium travel markers including private aviation access, five-star hotel and villa density, fine dining, elite leisure options, and average luxury hotel rates.

The result is a kind of billionaire vacation map, tracing where tech founders, hedge fund legends, old-money families, celebrity dynasties, and superyacht crowds go when they want the view, the service, and the security to match the net worth.

From the French Riviera and Monaco to Miami, the Hamptons, Bali, and the Maldives, these are the ultra-luxury destinations dominating billionaire travel right now.

    1. French Riviera, France: the world’s top billionaire vacation destination

The French Riviera ranks as the world’s top destination for billionaire travel, earning a nearly perfect index score of 99. The Côte d’Azur has the rare combination of beauty, history, privacy, and logistics that the ultra-rich tend to return to generation after generation.

A night at a top hotel averages about $1,551, which is steep for most travelers but still significantly less than Monaco. Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez, German BMW heir Stefan Quandt, Roman Abramovich, and Elton John have all been associated with the French Riviera, where the appeal is not just the Mediterranean scenery but the ability to move between Cap Ferrat, Cannes, Antibes, and St. Tropez by yacht, helicopter, or chauffeured car.

The French Riviera ranks No. 1 for billionaire travel, thanks to its mix of yacht access, palace hotels, fine dining, and Mediterranean glamour.

The region also has a fresh pop-culture hook. HBO’s The White Lotus season 4 has begun filming on the French Riviera, including Cannes, St. Tropez, and Monaco, with additional filming in Paris, though the story will remain along the Côte d’Azur.

For the full palace-hotel version of the fantasy, Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat, A Four Seasons Hotel, is one of the region’s defining addresses, with sea views, old-world glamour, and a glass-fronted funicular leading toward the Mediterranean.

    2. Monaco: the luxury playground where scarcity drives the price

Monaco ranks second, proving that in ultra-luxury travel, scarcity can be just as powerful as abundance. The tiny principality has far fewer luxury hotels than most destinations on the list, but that limited inventory is part of what keeps prices and prestige so high.

A luxury hotel night in Monaco averages around $2,440, the highest rate among the destinations studied. Jeff Bezos, British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe, Shahid Khan, casino mogul Steve Wynn, art dealer David Nahmad, and Ilan Tobianah, often known online as “Zeus Monaco,” have all been associated with the principality.

Monaco does not have its own private jet terminal, so wealthy visitors usually land in nearby Nice before transferring by helicopter or car. Once there, they find private banks, designer boutiques, superyachts, restaurants, Formula 1 glamour, and casino history packed into one tiny cliffside playground.

Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo is the classic place to stay, sitting directly on Casino Square with Belle Époque grandeur and one of the world’s most famous hotel wine cellars.

    3. Miami, USA: America’s answer to the European Riviera

Miami takes third place, making it the top U.S. destination in the billionaire travel ranking. It has become the American answer to the European Riviera, with warm weather, easy access, a private-wealth culture, art-world energy, and a luxury scene that feels less formal than in Monaco or the Côte d’Azur.

The average luxury hotel night comes in around $1,168, keeping Miami firmly in ultra-luxury territory while still below Monaco, Courchevel, Capri, and the French Riviera. Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, and Larry Page have all been linked to Miami, with Bezos making major real estate moves around Indian Creek Island, often nicknamed the “Billionaire Bunker.”

The Setai, Miami Beach, has an oceanfront location, a serene courtyard, and a polished South Beach setting that feels glamorous without shouting.

    4. The Hamptons, USA: where Wall Street money summers by the beach

The Hamptons rank fourth, showing that proximity to a major financial capital can be just as valuable as Mediterranean cliffs. For New York’s billionaire class, the East End is less a vacation destination than a seasonal ritual.

A night at a luxury hotel averages about $1,201, similar to Miami. But the real luxury here is access: private golf clubs, beach clubs, tennis courts, charity events, dinner parties, and estates hidden behind hedges tall enough to make privacy feel architectural.

The Hamptons remain a summer escape for the ultra-rich, where private estates, beach clubs, and proximity to New York help define the appeal.

Ken Griffin, Michael Rubin, Barry Rosenstein, Leon Black, and New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft have all been associated with the Hamptons. The area’s power comes from continuity. Every summer, financiers, media figures, sports owners, fashion insiders, and legacy families return for weekends that may look relaxed but often run on invitation-only access.

The Roundtree, Amagansett, offers a polished boutique stay on a historic property with the understated feel that suits the East End.

    5. Amalfi Coast, Italy: cliffside luxury with serious yacht appeal

The Amalfi Coast rounds out the top five with one of the most seductive formulas in luxury travel: dramatic cliffs, deep blue water, old-world hotels, private boat days, and lunches that somehow become the main event.

A luxury hotel night averages around $957, the lowest among the top five, making it something close to a bargain in billionaire terms. Jeff Bezos, Australian billionaire James Packer, Ernesto Bertarelli, and Graeme Hart have all been associated with the Amalfi Coast, drawn to its yacht-friendly coastline, cliffside towns, private coves, and polished Italian hospitality.

Il San Pietro di Positano is one of the great luxury addresses here, with cliffside terraces, private beach access, and a setting that makes the hotel feel as if it were carved into the coast.

    6. Bali, Indonesia: the wellness escape redefining billionaire travel

Bali ranks sixth and stands out as the top Asian destination on the list. It also shows how billionaire travel has expanded beyond the traditional yacht-club model. Here, luxury is less about old-money codes and more about privacy, wellness, design, and the ability to disappear into a villa surrounded by jungle.

Average luxury hotel pricing is around $350 per night, far lower than Monaco, Courchevel, or Capri, but Bali’s high-end market is more about scale and seclusion than price-gated scarcity.

The Kardashians have been associated with Bali, and the destination makes sense for travelers seeking high-end resort amenities, private pools, spa rituals, cultural immersion, and spiritual wellness without sacrificing serious luxury.

Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve is a top place to stay. It boasts butler-serviced villas along the Ayung River in Ubud and a deep-jungle setting built around privacy.

    7. Courchevel, France: the winter resort built for extreme wealth

Courchevel ranks seventh and is the only winter destination in the top 10. This is not just a ski resort. It is an alpine wealth ecosystem, where designer boutiques, palace hotels, private chalets, Michelin-starred restaurants, and ski-in, ski-out convenience all operate at altitude.

A night at a luxury property averages around $2,204, making Courchevel the second-most expensive destination in the study after Monaco. Roman Abramovich, Mikhail Prokhorov, and Russian oligarchs more broadly have long been associated with Courchevel, helping shape its reputation as one of the most extreme luxury ski destinations in the world.

The resort’s appeal is simple: guests can ski directly from palace hotels, shop luxury brands between runs, dine at high-altitude restaurants, and retreat to chalets where staff handle everything from fires to wine pairings.

    8. Majorca, Spain: the Mediterranean island with room to disappear

Majorca ranks eighth, giving Spain a strong foothold in the Mediterranean luxury market. The island offers a softer, more spacious alternative to the French Riviera and Monaco, with mountains, olive groves, stone villages, secluded coves, and marinas built for serious yachts.

Average luxury hotel pricing sits around $978 per night, keeping Majorca below the most expensive destinations on the list while still firmly in ultra-luxury territory. Jeff Bezos, Jack Ma, and Virgin Group founder Richard Branson have all been associated with Majorca, where the appeal is the ability to combine Mediterranean glamour with genuine space.

Wealthy travelers can hide out in a restored finca, base themselves near Deià, sail along the coast, or retreat inland where the island feels far removed from the beach-club scene.

Belmond La Residencia, set in the artists’ village of Deià, is one of the island’s most elegant stays, surrounded by olive and citrus groves with mountain views and a slower rhythm.

    9. Maldives: the private-island fantasy for the ultra-rich

The Maldives ranks ninth, though in terms of pure fantasy, it may be the most obvious billionaire vacation destination on the list. This is the place people picture when they imagine disappearing beautifully: overwater villas, private islands, seaplane transfers, and water so blue it looks edited even when it is not.

Average nightly rates are around $854, though the most extravagant private-island villas can climb far beyond that. The Beckham and Ramsay families have been associated with the Maldives, where resorts are often spread across private coral atolls, making privacy part of the architecture.

The appeal for celebrity families and ultra-rich travelers is obvious. Guests can move from seaplane to villa to beach dinner without encountering crowds, traffic, or unwanted attention.

Soneva Jani is one of the benchmark resorts for this fantasy, known for massive overwater villas, retractable roofs for stargazing, and private water slides into the lagoon.

    10. Capri, Italy: old-world glamour with billionaire staying power

Capri completes the top 10, reinforcing Italy’s power in the ultra-luxury travel market. The island has limited geography, and that is central to its appeal. Capri has never been built for everyone, which helps explain why it still draws the kind of travelers who can arrive however they want.

The average luxury hotel night is around $1,719. Capri does not have its own private jet terminal, so ultra-wealthy travelers typically arrive by helicopter, private boat, or luxury tender from Naples or nearby coastal destinations.

David Geffen, Jeff Bezos, Roman Abramovich, Les Wexner, and James Packer have all been associated with Capri. For superyacht travelers, the island is a natural stop, with the Faraglioni, the Blue Grotto, designer shopping, long lunches, and a nightlife scene that has been attracting the global rich for generations.
